Strengthening Europe's Nursing Workforce

The European Specialist Nurses Organisations (ESNO) promotes and contributes to the health and wellbeing of Europeans by facilitating and enabling the political voice of specialist nurses. Through collaboration with key stakeholders, the professional status and evidence based practice of nursing specialities are strengthened. ESNO aims to secure the recognition of specialist nursing in the EU and greater Europe.

As member of ESNO, ESGENA participate in ESNO meetings.

ESGENA representative: Hilde Willekens, Belgium

On November 3rd and 4th, 2025 ESNO held two pivotal events in Brussels, focusing on the urgent issue of nursing retention and the long-term sustainability of Europe's healthcare workforce. These events, hosted at the European Parliament by MEP Dr. András Kulja in collaboration with Cancer Patients Europe, UEHP, and ECHO—and supported by the EESC—brought together a diverse group of stakeholders. Participants included representatives from European institutions, nursing associations, economists, and workforce specialists. Patricia Burga, Hilde Willekens and Deepa Gandhi represented ESGENA at this event.
